Embankment basal reinforcement with high strength geotextiles and geogrids

Fast construction of high embankments over soft soil requires high strength geotextiles (e.g., Stabilenka) at the base for stability against slip failure or squeezing out of soft layers. This technology is often combined with vertical drains for accelerated consolidation.

Advantages:

  • Ensures global and local stability of embankment structure
  • Fast, single-layer installation of woven geotextile thanks to high tensile strengths

  • Shorter construction times due to rapid subsoil consolidation, especially in combination with vertical drains

  • Steep slopes even during construction, resulting in lower base widths and savings on fill material

  • Limits differential settlement

More Applications

  • Embankment on piles with horizontal reinforcement

The "geosynthetic-reinforced soil on piles" foundation system is virtually settlement-free and thus ideal for rapid embankment construction.

  • Prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) for accelerated consolidation of soft soils

Consolidation can be accelerated by installing vertical drains to a depth of up to 35 meters, shortening its settlement rate from several years to several months.
